China is one of the fastest developing economic powers in the world with a massive population and with an inevitable influence on the world. It is very clear that various areas in trade, economy, business and culture must seriously take China into account. The Diploma in Chinese offers you the following training, development and skills:

A thorough grounding in the basics of the structure and grammar of the Chinese language through exposition and constant exercises both in class and at home. Some courses in Chinese Culture will also be offered.
The ability and knowledge to read and interpret Chinese texts and holding conversations in Chinese.

This Diploma Course will also offer you the following transferable skills:

A well-trained mind, with an attention to detail to execute your duties with clarity and precision.
An advantageous position as a trade contact liaising between Malta and China.

Requirement for award of Diploma in Chinese: 60 credits

This programme of study is governed by The General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws of the Diploma in Chinese under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts and the Confucius Institute.

Upon successfully completing the Diploma in Chinese, you should:

Have a command of the basic Chinese characters.
Be able to hold simple conversations in Chinese.
Read unsophisticated Chinese texts.
Communicate in basic Chinese when communicating with a native or learner.
Follow conversations through your refined auditory sensations of the language.

By the end of the course, you will be able to work as a trade contact between Malta and China. You will also be employable in the international job market, where you will be able to use your acquired proficiency of the language. Further studies are also available by transferring to an undergraduate course in Chinese offered by the Faculty of Arts in the University of Malta or in a foreign institution abroad, provided that the necessary requirements are met.
